Fryer on football: Leave a high school game at halftime at your own peril

Many people packed up their folding stadium chairs and water bottles and walked out of the stadium at halftime. It wasn’t a very good game. San Juan Hills dominated the first half and Edison’s offense was flat Friday at Cap Sheue Field at Huntington Beach High School. But this is high school football. Momentum changes are common in high school football. And momentum changed uniforms at halftime. Edison rallied Friday night to beat San Juan Hills 24-17. San Juan Hills had a 17-0 lead in the second quarter. Edison twice had possession at or inside the San Juan Hills 10-yard line in the second quarter but could only produce three points that made it 17-3 at halftime. Boyles, who as he has in previous Edison games shared time Friday with fellow junior Jacob Hanlon at quarterback, in the first half completed 2 of 6 passes for 14 yards. On Edison’s first possession of the second half, on third and 7 at the Edison 36 Boyles connected with PJ Campbell for 10 yards and a first down. He followed up with a 28-yard pass to Nico Brown on second and 14 for another first down. San Juan Hills got its first touchdown when Boyles threw toward the middle rear of the end zone where Cole Koffler in ...

Park Tool redesigns its home mechanic repair stands for 2019

ST. PAUL, Minn. (BRAIN) — Park Tool has announced a complete redesign of its PCS-9 and PCS-10 Repair Stands for the new season. The home mechanic stands are getting their first major makeover since they were introduced in 2006. The newly named PCS-9.2 and PCS-10.2 stands include:• Oval shaped upright tubing so the clamps are always oriented correctly over the legs eliminating unwanted movement of the repair stand during use.• Reshaped and re-contoured clamp parts.• New leg pivot system featuring struts to keep the legs together as the stand is folded, which also creates increased rigidity while the stand is in use. Legs can now be locked up or down on both stands.• Both stands use a steel top tube with a composite rotation bearing system providing free and easy rotation and secure locking.• The PCS-9.2 now features ergonomic knobs for locking and height adjustment, which replace the nut and bolt assembly of the previous model. The PCS-10.2 uses quick releases for locking and height adjustment.• Both stands now more easily fold for storage and feature increased stability while in use, holding bikes up to 80 pounds. The PCS-10.2 features Park’s cam-actuated, m...

Today, we take a look at Sienna Biopharmaceuticals whose shares have dropped substantially since debuting in

Today, we take a look at Sienna Biopharmaceuticals whose shares have dropped substantially since debuting in 2017. The company has multiple ‘shots on goal’, recently did a capital raise and has strong if sparse analyst support. People who LIKE movies have a favorite. People who LOVE movies couldn’t possibly choose.” ― Nicole Yatsonsky Today we look at a small developmental firm with multiple shots on goal but that has largely destroyed shareholder value since coming public. The shares seem to have stabilized in 2019 and a Busted IPO Forum member requested a deeper dive on this small cap concern. Our investment analysis follows in the paragraphs below. Sienna Biopharmaceuticals (SNNA) IPO’d in 2017 and is a California-based clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing and advancing targeted, topical therapeutics in medical dermatology and aesthetics. The company’s pipeline can be broken down into two categories based upon the platform from which the therapeutics are derived, the Topical by Design platform and the Topical Photoparticle Therapy platform. The Topical by Design platform consists of two candidates: their lead product candidate SNA-...

Box Office: Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker’ Movie Opening Weekend Tracking

Warner Bros.’ “The Joker,” an origin story about the notorious Batman villain, is shaping up to be a big hit despite being one of the darkest mainstream movies to hit screens in years. The film is on pace to debut to a sizable $76 million to $88 million when it hits theaters on Oct. 4, according to early tracking. Some executives believe those numbers are very inflated because the film is so unconventional and has characteristics that could alienate fanboys and fangirls as well as more mainstream crowds. Warner Bros. believes the dark thriller could launch in the $50 million to $55 million range. Even if “Joker” opens well below that bullish tracking, a start above $50 million-plus would be a success. While those figures would rank on the lower side when it comes to comic-book adaptations, “Joker” is not a typical superhero tentpole — it’s a violent R-rated character study that’s closer to “Taxi Driver” than “Aquaman” or “Shazam.” It unfolds in a 1980s urban landscape pockmarked by burnt out buildings and graffiti, unstintingly documenting one character’s descent into madness as the social structures around him crumble. Because the movie is so different from standard comic book ...

Every year, the Apple ecosystem gets a little more muddled. After all, when Apple sells iPhones that are three generations old, and they all look essentially the same, it’s hard to keep track of which is which and what’s what. The reveal of the iPhone 11, with its distinctive dual (or triple) camera bump changes things significantly. Not since Touch ID went by the wayside has there been a better differentiator. But what if you’re still rocking one of those old Touch ID iPhone 8 devices? Is it worth trading it in for an upgrade to the iPhone 11? Here’s how the two phones compare.   I had the iPhone 8 Plus the weekend it came out and loved it. It was the biggest, fastest, most innovative iPhone on the market. With a 5.5″ Retina HD display, 1920×1080 resolution, and the addition of TrueTone, it offered an incredibly crisp picture. The 8 series iPhones are where Portrai...

Antistatic Shoes Market Thrives on Constant Research and Development

The property of safety shoes that is of utmost importance is its ability to withstand electric current. Two important factors need to be taken into account while buying safety shoes. How effective those shoes would be against the electrostatic charging i.e. how quickly could it push one out and how good is their resistance towards shock. A distinct antistatic shoes market exists from a global perspective. It is very important for any individual to wear such shoes that withstand electric current if his work involves electric current, as such safety shoes reduce the amount of electricity that enters the body. Antistatic shoes are a type of safety shoes. Both antistatic and electrostatic dissipative shoes fall under the category of safety conducting shoes. They provide a certain level of isolation at the time of being electrified. However, their primary function is to give protection to an individual against static electricity. These antistatic shoes give protection by throwing out the static electricity from the shoes to the ground and thus averting a charge or spark or charge. Employees of industries where a static shock could end up in threatening situations such as explosion m...

Twins’ Buxton could miss 5-6 months after labrum surgery

Minnesota Twins manager Rocco Baldelli announced that Byron Buxton will undergo labrum surgery Tuesday, and his initial guess is that the outfielder could miss five-to-six months, according to MLB.com’s Do-Hyoung Park. The Twins officially placed Buxton on the 60-day injured list Tuesday with a left shoulder subluxation. The 25-year-old returned at the beginning of September but could only manage five games as a defensive replacement and pinch runner. Buxton finishes the campaign hitting .262/.314/.513 with 10 home runs and 30 doubles in 87 contests for the AL Central-leading Twins. Minnesota also reinstated right-hander Kyle Gibson (ulcerative colitis) off the 10-day IL and selected the contract of infielder Ronald Torreyes from Triple-A Rochester. CAFE 541: Jun, a kombucha alternative, uses local honey as sweetener – Entertainment & Life – The Register-Guard

Just when you thought you had the fermented tea selection at the health food store figured out, a new kind arrives. Kombucha, the now-mainstream probiotic beverage, is fermented from a sugary black tea solution. Now, meet jun, kombucha’s green-tea-and-honey-based cousin. A distinct culture from the one that ferments kombucha, jun probably arrived in Eugene decades ago, if not earlier, brought here from distant Asian lands and brewed in homes. More recently, it’s started to show up on store shelves. And there’s good reason for that: Eugene loves its bees. “Our business model is all about sourcing as locally as possible,” BNF Kombucha & Jun founder Kevin Warren said. “Having a local sweetener source was really appealing to me.” He started making jun around the same time as kombucha, in 2015, and now he’s buying 600 pounds of honey at a time from Pleasant Hill apiary Humble Bee Honey. OSO Jun, another Eugene brewer, is named for the Spanish word for bear because bears love honey, explained founder and brewer Graham Hannegan. OSO sources honey from Flying Bee Ranch in Salem. Honey cannot be certified organic unless every property i...

Heading to the South of France? Here Are the Best Places to Eat and Drink in Cahors

Visit Cahors in the late spring through early fall, when the weather is beautiful and the most winery tasting rooms are open. Truffle lovers, however, take note: Your best months are January and February. The strategy: Fly into the Toulouse airport. Plan on several leisurely paced day trips, following the Lot River. While the distances aren’t especially long, the roads are windy and scenic, with tempting medieval villages (Douelle, Luzech, Albas, Puy l’Evêque) along the way playing a part in the adventure. Start at the Malbec Lounge, where you can taste multiple Malbecs, and get a jump on finding your style (and planning your wine routes). In the town of Cahors: stop in the 12th-century cathedral, follow the World Heritage path to the iconic 14th-century stone bridge and the best farmers market for miles around. The region’s largest organic and biodynamic winery offers a wine bar and bistro, and centuries of history. Also a destination for food lovers: Its restaurant, La Table de Haute Serre has earned Michelin’s BIB Gourmand award. The Italianate tasting room boasts impressive wines, which are the work of consultant Michel Rolland. This castle winery has several exciting brands...
